The beauty and charm of the Amsterdam architecture is truly beyond measure.



The Amsterdam architecture is counted amongst the best artifacts of the world.

The historical city abounds in various cultural edifices including the Van Gogh Museum, Rembrandt House Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House, and a lot of other 17th century historical semi-circular canals, houses and mansions.

Founded in the 12th century and towards its end, this capital city of Netherlands is located on the banks of the IJ bay and the Amstel River.

The house, streets and patterns
The architecture in Amsterdam is unique in the way the houses were planned and constructed. Being a marshy land, the region highly risked in the houses going down under the unstable topsoil.

The medieval houses were found in clay and timber, whereas the more recent ones are made of brick.

Renaissance in the air
Architecture in Amsterdam has a unique touch of Renaissance culture in its buildings and structures followed by a rich Dutch influence. Henrick de Keyser, the famous architect has left the city with some artistic touch of his fine Renaissance craftsmanship.

The Dutch houses mostly identify with the Greek and Roman temples in their style, decor and architecture. The classic forte of Adriaan Dortsman (1625-82), is best projected in the city's most treasured Museum van Loon on Keizersgracht.

The 18th century French design and the 19th century magnificent architecture can be found in the Central Station and Rijksmuseum.

Hendrik Petrus Berlage, better known as the father of modern Dutch architecture, founded the Amsterdam School that taught creativity in its basic and individual form.

Scheepvaarthuis or the Shipping House is one of the most striking creations of the skilled members of the school.

Post 19th century Amsterdam architecture
By the end of 19th century, architecture in Amsterdam reached a new height by raising several varieties of monuments and buildings, including the most famous Felix Meritis by Jacob Otten.

The fabulous Dutch architecture was soon found to be highly influenced by the fine craftsmanship of French architect Le Corbusier. Again post 1990, the city saw a glorious revival of the Dutch architecture, with the works of Aldo van Eyck, Herman Hertzberger.

The Amsterdam architecture since 1990 has emerged out as one of the best and most treasured architectural hub in the world.

With some of its antique structures and edifices, Amsterdam seems to have reached an enormous height in its grandeur of culture and heritage.
