Amsterdam was founded as a fishing village around thirteenth century. It was during the 15th century, Amsterdam underwent a rapid development, which laid the foundation for the Golden Age. This period of 1585-1672 was considered as the golden age of Amsterdam, as some of the most historic buildings dates back to this period.

Several residential dwellings were left vacant and some even collapsed due to the lack of maintenance. However, the period of 1830 - 1940 was marked by economic recovery and expansion. People started demanding their rights and with the settlement of the consensus, progressive planning and adoption of social policies, Amsterdam became tolerant to all communities. Eventually with the social, cultural and economic shifts, Amsterdam emerged as a spectacular city where tourists flocked in abundance to cherish glorious Amsterdam history and lively atmosphere.
