Jordan Area Is The Heart Of Amsterdam

The Jordan Area is a wonderful labyrinth of narrow canals and alleyways.

The canals are mostly overflowing.

The Jordan is a seventeenth century establishment built along the paths and ditches, which isolated it from the rest of the city.
However, it was in the year 1924 that the area of Jordan came to be connected with the city center.

In the year 1900, the area of Jordan provided accommodation to 77,000 people. After that, many houses have been destroyed and at present, Jordan area holds a total population of 20,000 inhabitants.

The people living in this part of the city are:

  • Labors and artists live in this particular area because they are not allowed to reside in the main city center due to stringent noise pollution rules and smell regulations

  • The ambiance of Jordan is pleasant and the houses are available at affordable rents. These factors have contributed much in attracting several artists and intellectuals to come and stay in this part of the city

Buildings in the district of Jordan
Not much of the 17th century houses still exist. The 19th century industrialization zeal made people realize the necessity of dwellings in Jordan. Scanty houses compelled families to share a single room or live in cellars.

However, in 1850 the scenario slightly changed when laborer’s cottages for the first time were built in Jordan.

More than eight hundred 19th century buildings of this particular area have safely made their place in the national heritage list.

The attractions in the Jordan area
The sentimental songs sung by the local inhabitants of Jordan increased the popularity and prestige of this particular area. In the local pubs of Jordan, live singers sang these sentimental numbers in praise of the land.

This bohemian area with tapered streets and tiny canals, courtyards, art studios and monumental buildings with old-fashion pubs, galleries, boutiques and tablets made of stone speak highly of Jordan.

In entire Netherlands, Jordan area is the most spoken about and widely appreciated district visited by people from both within and outside the city of Amsterdam.

Initially the place was meant for the poor section of the society but now it has turned into a hot spot for students, artists and young professionals.

The famous Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn was the native of the Jordan area. However, he belonged to the era of the poor working class. Some of the best restaurants of Amsterdam serving several scrumptious and palatable dishes are located in Jordan.

The Egelantiersgracht is a quiet, peaceful and beautiful canal of Jordan Area. It is just a few blocks from the Anne Frank House with a touch of green wherever your eyes can take you.

It is best that you explore this part of the city either on foot or by bike. The streets of Jordan are calm and well-designed and it is not a famous tourist destination. Thus, you will find very few visitors roaming about on the streets of Jordan.

In short, the Jordan area as a part of the city of Amsterdam is indeed a popular locale for locals, students and professionals.
