The museum is a projection palace for all modern arts. The Museum is situated at the Museum Square and it is quite close to Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. The art collection of the Stedelijk Museum is stupendous including a room painting by Karel Appel, and also a huge artistic wealth by Kazimir Malevich. Previously the Stedelijk was located in Museumplein and now it has been shifted to Oosterdokskade just at the eastward side of the Central Station. The Stedelijk is not just a museum. It is a postal building too, which accommodates a wide range of companies related to arts. You can have a wonderful view of the entire city from the top most floor of this fascinating building. This particular floor holds a restaurant during the daytime and at night, it offers a dance club for utmost entertainment. The place where the Stedelijk museum is located is a meeting point of the old and the new city. Stedelijk is glad to present several demonstrations of art film, design, video and photography.
These displays concentrate on the contemporary development from the year 1968. However, the extended part of this museum will be inaugurated on August 2008 where the outstanding arts of several master artists like Chagall, Picasso and others will be readily displayed.
The exhibitions taking place in this museum cover all art forms including prints, paintings and sculptures, applied art and designs, drawings, graphic designs and photographs. This museum is meant for the new as it promotes the works of upcoming artists and sculptors. For more than hundred years, it has helped the young and contemporary geniuses to exhibit their skills with immense success and applause. In the library of this museum, you will get to see arts starting from the year 1870 up to now. What a collection, really awe-inspiring! The stupendous collection of this part of the museum holds more than 300 magazine subscriptions, more than 900 documentary videos, thousands of auction catalogues, 200 CD-ROMS and ten thousands of newspaper cuttings. You can only access a part of this collection on the web. Presently the library of the Stedelijk Museum is located at the Deccaweg in Amsterdam West, but steady arrangements are being made to relocate the library at the Museumplein. All are there, starting from Monet, Paul Cézanne to Pablo Picasso, Bonnard, Dufy, Braque and many others whose works have made this museum a paradise of art. In the Stedelijk Museum, more than thirty exhibitions are planned and prepared each year. Contemporary artists like Barnett Newman, Kenneth Noland, Frank Stella and Edward Kienholz too have much adorned the museum hall with their brilliant art forms. In short, the Stedelijk Museum is nothing but a constellation of master artists who shine with their arts to make this place a destination worth appraisal and applaud.
