Vondelpark
A Visit To The Paradise In Amsterdam
Vondelpark in Amsterdam has its name from the famous writer of the seventeenth century, Joost van den Vondel.
Architect Jan David Zocher wonderfully designed the park in the year 1864. It was in the year 1865 that for the first time the park was opened for the public.
At first, the owner of the park was Vereniging tot aanleg van een rij- en wandelpark.
This was a society responsible for creating a park for activities like riding and strolling. However, a time came when it was no longer possible for the society to take care of the park and thus the Vondelpark was given away to the city of Amsterdam. Several events like golf tournaments and running contests are held at Vondelpark. It is in fact the largest park in Amsterdam, which can easily be reached from all the major sites of the city. The park is located just at the center and so it is easily reachable from all corners of Amsterdam. This park is opened both for the local citizens and also for visitors coming from all corners of the world. It feels great when you walk through the park during the cozy summer months. It is indeed thrilling. The History While you analyze the history of the park, you may come to know that it was built on about 8 hectares of land at the periphery of the city of Amsterdam. Zocher selected an English landscape style to design this fantastic greenery. It was indeed an incredible creation by this master artist. The park was originally known as Nieuwe Park or New Park and later on after the statue of Joost van den Vondel was placed inside, the name was changed to Vondelpark. After that, the popularity of the park reached to such great heights that the commoners enthusiastically collected funds to expand the area of the park to 45 hectares. Most people come to the park to enjoy the fresh air and the wide-open arena. There are several walking and bike parks that fantastically intersect the attractive landscape park. On a particular evening, the Rollerbladers come together to have a fantastic nocturnal skating experience. It is also a kid’s paradise. There are six separate areas within the park where the kids feel happy to play around and have a wonderful time. As the little ones are busy having fun, the moms and dads laze themselves on the comfortable benches of the park and enjoy the pleasure of wonderful Amsterdam weather. From June through August the guests come at the Vondelpark Open Air Theater to listen to some of the loveliest music being played and also to witness brilliant theatrical presentations on stage. These art forms occur constantly for five nights each week and the spectators are not expected to pay any admission fees though donations are always encouraged. The guests in Vondelpark have a tough time in choosing from several varieties ranging from rock concerts to symphony orchestras to classic plays and musicals. The Vondelpark is a lively area with thousands of skaters, joggers and street performers busy exhibiting their talents and winning the hearts of millions. This park has bars too with their personal exterior terrace where you can really have a wonderful time drinking, eating and gossiping with your mates. Therefore, be sure to visit Vondelpark if you ever go to Amsterdam. It is surely going to give you a start.
