The Festive Mood of Queens Day Amsterdam


The Queens day Amsterdam is a popular festival in Netherlands and is observed with much pomp and vigor.

The day is a holiday and is commemorated as the birthday of the former queen of the Netherlands.



Every year, the festivity takes place on April 30 and it welcomes millions of visitors from all round the world to indulge in the spectrum of mirth and glory.

Queens day Amsterdam – How it all started?
It all started on August 31, when Queen Wilhelmina, ascended the throne. The day was considered auspicious and reason for mirth and happiness for thousands of the people of the country.

But when on April 30, 1949, the daughter of the queen, Juliane ascended the throne, the date of the queens day Amsterdam changed and people continued their celebration, but on a different date.

Later, when Queen Beatrix succeeded Julianne, she decided the date on April 30, though her original birthday was on January 31.

April 30 - the day turns up in its smartest and brightest form, making it an ideal haven for enjoying life to the fullest.

The streets are in their colorful facade, thronged with vibrant shops and countless onlookers in fabulous hues. The whole scenario is a beautiful painting straight from the platter.

Nieuwmarkt is a hot spot both for the adults and the children. Thorbeckeplein is a famous Dutch party with Dutch artists taking active participation in it. The famous radio program, Spui, hosts a number of Dutch hits and discos.

At the Amstel Taveerne, the place gets tuned to the popular hits by the Djs, the whole day long.

The occasion takes place in the Eastern part of the Amsterdam city and provides an amicable ambiance with theater groups, clowns, salsa, blues and Latin music making it your day.

Queens Day Amsterdam – Some restrictions
Avoid driving on this day, since the city remains packed with vehicles and also thousands of revelers. If you intend to drink, then do so at your own risk.

However, you should maintain a limit to your drinking spree on this particular day.

Relieve yourself at urinals, rather than on roads or parks. It is up to you to maintain the city clean and hygienic. Hence, maintain the rules and make it the most memorable day on this mirthful occasion of the Queens Day Amsterdam.
